wEDDING DAY SKIN PREP

This week we have the lovely CAroline doing a guest blog on wedding day skin prep.

LISTS. LISTS OF GUESTS. LISTS OF PHOTOGRAPHERS. LISTS OF DRESSES. LISTS OF HAIR AND MAKEUP ARTISTS. THE LISTS GO ON, AND ON, AND ON WHEN PLANNING A WEDDING. EVERYONE WANTS TO LOOK AND FEEL THEIR ABSOLUTE BEST, SO A LOT OF CARE AND CONSIDERATION GOES INTO PRETTY MUCH EVERY ASPECT OF A WEDDING. BUT DO YOU CONSIDER THE IMPORTANCE OF PREPPING YOUR SKIN FOR YOUR BIG DAY?

WE ALL WANT TO HAVE PLUMP, HYDRATED AND BRIGHT SKIN, AND WITH BIG NAMES LIKE RETINOL, HYAluronic ACID, VITAMIN C, AND A IS ALWAYS BEING THROWN AROUND IN THE MEDIA, DO WE REALLY KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD BE PUTTING ONTO AND INTO OUR SKIN?

As a makeup artist with a background in skin treatments, the skin prep stage, before applying the makeup, is a real passion of mine. We all have different skin types, whether that be dry, dehydrated, sensitive, oily, combination or normal and it is so important to be able to gage these differing types in consultation.

Your wedding makeup has to look flawless for approximately 16 hours that day, and if your skin has not been prepped appropriately, your makeup will not last.

What to use on skin types

If you’ve got quite open pores, you want to stay away from oil-based products, and if you have dry skin, for example, you need to be injecting water-based products onto your skin. So before we begin any makeup application, we cleanse! We need to freshen the skin, rid it of any excess sebum and grime. The bride and bridal party need to be glowing and good cleanser can get the glow on the go!

Hyaluronic acid is definitely a buzz word in the media right now, and it is my absolute go-to ingredient! It’s a great all-rounder, Not only does it hydrate the skin by locking in moisture, but it plumps and irons out any fine lines at the same time. A key ingredient on your wedding day for sure. This can applied after cleanser and before moisturisers and serums.

What i love

I’m also a huge fan of Dragon’s Blood. Sounds scary but it’s not! Dragon’s Blood serum is taken from the sap of Amazonian trees, with numerous benefits to general health and well-being, but where we’re concerned, Dragon’s Blood forms a protective barrier on the skin, which is really beneficial for sensitive skin types or as a soothing under-eye treatment before makeup application.

But what I love THE most about skin prep, is Gua Sha! Gua Sha is an ancient Chinese teaching where crystal tools are used to glide over the skin; draining away excess lymph and toxins, in-turn lifting and sculpting the skin to its natural facial contours. Who would not want this on the morning of their wedding?! And even better, if the tools have been cooled in a fridge before use, tired, puffy eyes are gone!!

Not only is skin prep on the morning of your wedding a major factor in how your makeup will look throughout the day, but prepping your skin in the months leading up to your wedding is also important, so treat yourself to regular facials and invest in some great skincare products.

WOW who knew all this prep went into getting your skin wedding readY! thanks so much to Caroline for taking time to chat to us, if you want to get in touch with her for your wedding day make-up click here.
