Wearing black to a wedding, yes or no?
I find it interesting how much tradition, rules, and etiquette comes into play with weddings. There is not any other event we are so strict with or question are choices with more! Do you agree?
No, I totally get it with wearing black! Within some traditions, religions, and cultures no you really shouldn’t. But in general yes, of course, you can wear black as a wedding guest.
The tradition of not wearing black to a wedding!
There are several traditions surrounding why we do not wear black to a wedding as a guest. One is that black is often associated with sadness and mourning, and wearing it to a happy occasion like a wedding would be considered bad luck. Additionally, black is seen as a formal color and is not typically considered appropriate for a celebratory event like a wedding.
When not to wear black?
There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on the specific religious or cultural beliefs of the couple getting married. Some faiths or cultures might consider it inappropriate to wear black to a wedding, while others may not have any specific dress code. If in doubt, it is best to check with the bride and groom to see what they would prefer.
Wearing black to a summer wedding
This is still a yes from us if appropriate for the type of wedding. If it is a festival or outdoor wedding with great weather then maybe a formal black dress is not the best for comfort. Toning down the black to a softer shade or going for a floaty floral dress would work perfectly.
