This week we have a stunning New York Industrial wedding for you. The gorgeous wedding of Rachael & Michael is all the way from New York USA!! Rachael planned and styled the wedding by herself. It’s one fab wedding with so many elements to it that all pull together.

Rachael has picked a stunning industrial venue and added so many fun elements we wish we were there!

When and where was the wedding?

Our wedding was in October 2019, in Hudson New York. The venue is called Basilica Hudson and is a wedding venue and art centre. Basilica Hudson is a non-profit multi-disciplinary arts centre in Hudson, NY. The venue supports the creation, production and presentation of independent and innovative arts and culture while fostering sustainable community

What type of ceremony did you have?

IT was AN INTERFAITH MARRIAGE. Rachael IS JEWISH AND MICHAEL IS AGNOSTIC CHRISTIAN. Rachael’s JEWISH CULTURE is IMPORTANT TO HER SO we AGREED TO HAVE A MIX OF A SECULAR WEDDING WITH SOME JEWISH ELEMENTS. We had THE cHUPPAH, Michael, who is a SET DESIGNER and CARPENTER DESIGNED AND BUILT it. WE also HAD A CANTOR MARRY US; HIS NAME IS CANTOR ERIK CONTZIUS.

THE CEREMONY happened in THE SAME LOCATION AS THE RECEPTION IN A SEPARATE CEREMONY ROOM. THE RECEPTION SPACE WAS HIDDEN FROM THE GUESTS UNTIL AFTER COCKTAIL HOUR; AGAIN TO CREATE THAT THEATRICAL and DRAMATIC REVEAL.

Did you have a theme to the wedding?

WITH BACKGROUNDS IN THEATRE, WE BOTH KNEW WE WANTED TO BRING IN THEATRICAL ELEMENTS TO OUR WEDDING WHILE STILL BEING INTIMATE. WE SELECTED BASILICA HUDSON AS OUR VENUE BECAUSE WE LOVED THE INDUSTRIAL AESTHETIC. I PERSONALLY LOVE THE ROMANCE AND BEAUTY THAT THESE SPACES POSSESS. ESPECIALLY WHEN JUXTAPOSED WITH A ROMANTIC, VINTAGE, WARM DESIGN.

WHEN WE FOUND OUT YOU CAN DO PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING YOU WANT IN THis venue, INCLUDING HAVing FIRE PERFORMERS and NO NOISE LIMITATIONS. YOU COULD even BRING IN ANIMALS; WE WERE SOLD! WE ALSO LOVED THAT IT’S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS AN ART CENTRE WHEN IT’S NOT A WEDDING VENUE. THE ONLY DRAW BACK was, BUT WE VIEWED This AS AN OPPORTUNITY. Is THAT THE SPACE DOESN’T PROVIDE ANYTHING EXCEPT CHAIRS and TABLES. THIS MEANT WE GOT TO CHOOSE EVERYTHING!!

Our wedding our way

IT WAS A HIGHLY CURATED WEDDING, NOTHING ABOUT THIS WAS A PACKAGED deal; IT WAS ALL CUSTOMIsED. I, RACHAEL THE BRIDE, AM A PRODUCER AND MY HUSBAND IS A SET DESIGNER and CARPENTER. SO WE KNEW WE WANTED A LOT OF PERSONAL ELEMENTS AND that WE WERE CAPABLE OF EXECUTING Them.

The MONTHS LEADING UP TO THE WEDDING, time was spent STORE SHOPPING; GOING ON AUCTION SITES FOR VINTAGE PIECES AND FURNITURE TO CREATE A COsY LOUNGE SPACE. ONE GREAT FIND WAS 50 VINTAGE SUITCASES I WON FROM AN AUCTION FOR $30; I USED THESE THROUGHOUT THE huge SPACE within the venue. as I KNEW that there WAS A BIG enough SPACE, which could cater for around 300 people AND WE WERE HAVING AN INTIMATE SIZE WEDDING for 100 PEOPLE. So i knew WE would NEED TO FILL THE SPACE WITH OTHER ELEMENTS TO NOT HAVE IT FEEL EMPTY.

It was all about the fun

WE INSTALLED A DOUBLE SWING FOR OUR GUESTS TO ENJOY! WE also HIRED BOTTLE DANCERS TO RE-ENACT THE BOTTLE DANCING SCENE FROM FIDDLER ON THE ROOf. This is a FAVOuRITE OF RACHAEL’S GRANDMA AND a CALL BACK TO OUR THEATRICAL ROOTS. WE ALSO ENDED THE AFTER PARTY WITH AN AMAZING LOCAL FIRE DANCER.
