REAL WEDDING AT WEST MILL DERBY.
THIS WEEK ON THE BLOG WE HAVE the real wedding of Scott and Laura. They married at the gorgeous West Mill Derby. at Darley Abbey Mills.
the venue is a gorgeous old Cotton Mill. which has been transformed into an exclusive use wedding venue. This magnificent Grade 1 Listed Building offers a relaxed and individual setting.
we’re delighted to feature this wedding. AS YOU KNOW have a weakness for industrial venues!
This is a stunning winter wedding. if you are planning a winter wedding. then make sure you head to our winter wedding guide.
What made you choose the venue West Mill Derby?
The West Mill at Darley Abbey is 100% Industrial chic. a warm characterful mill with touches of glamour!
We knew it was the venue for us the moment we stepped through the door. It has a huge amount of character.
as it is a Grade I listed former cotton mill. the current owners of the mill restored it. thankfully keeping as much of the original features as possible. which we loved!
What was the theme of the wedding at west mill derby?
We had coppers and dark greens. AS WE really wanted to play on the time of year.
while keeping everything sumptuous and wintery. and not to detract from our gorgeous surroundings in the mill!
The copper tones added some sparkle. wItH the greens addING a winter feel. especially as the girls wore green velvet dresses!
When and where did you meet?
We met in 2013 when we both worked at Alton Towers. however we did not start to date until January 2014.
We tried to keep our relationship secret. as we worked in the same department. but everyone already knew anyway!
livING together after only 6 months of dating. Scott proposed on Christmas Day in 2016. he then promptly left for a new job based in Dubai. 3 days later! safe to say we have tested our relationship. but still love each other dearly!
A wedding with personality
We had planned our day for us!
January is a month that has so much meaning to us. as we started dating in January 2014. Scott proposed on Christmas Day in 2016.
not everyone likes a winter wedding. but the West Mill just lent itself to this time of year. also we knew we wanted lots of candles. and soft lighting throughout the day. WHAT better way to start a New Year!
We decided to keep every part of the day at the West Mill. This meant we didn’t have to transport people around meaning we made good use of the time we had together with friends and family. as well as enjoy the venue. West Mill really helped having 4 floors to use. a different floor for each part of the day. IT also kept everyone interested. THE VENUE IS exclusive use, meaning we had the place to ourselves.
All décor, Laura and Scott provided and made themselves. including all of the wedding stationary. they made Damson Gin which was decanted into personalised bottles. finished with a Welsh Love Spoon for each of our guests to take home. or drink at the table!
Wedding Details at West Mill Derby
Our amazing florist, Nadia, decorated the venue. just as we wanted with lots of greenery. and accessorised with candles everywhere! It really looked stunning. We left her in charge of choices for the day.
the time of year meant it could be tricky for us to be too precise on choice of foliage and flowers. so we let the expert do that for us. however we just asked for some Eucalyptus as this is one of Laura’s favourites!
As Scott is from Wales. we wanted to introduce some Welsh touches throughout. so We chose Aber Falls Dry Gin and Pembrokeshire Cidre to serve for our reception drinks. alongside some yummy welsh cakes from Fabulous Welsh Cakes in Cardiff.
Initially, we struggled to find someone to provide a wedding cake for us. but our photographers knew just the lady! Adele from April Delights supplied a stunning looking cake. that tasted amazing too!
Our cake was COMPLEMENTED by personalised biscuits and chocolate bars. family member and bridesmaid Claire Amos made. Everybody loved them!
Outfits
Laura wore a slinky number from Pronovias. it was a beautiful crepe material on the bottom and lace at the top. with an illusion neckline.
For drama, Laura chose a cathedral length veil. also a beautiful pair of maroon velvet Ted Baker shoes. these were the reason behind the maroon nail varnish and lipstick too!
Scott and the groomsmen wore a tweed 3-piece suit by Harry Brown. He opted for a navy blue with black running through it. white shirt and a copper tie to match in with the theme of the wedding.
All items he and the groomsmen wore were from Slaters Menswear. We added a couple of unique touches to the suits. like the personalised tie clips with each of the boys initials engraved onto them.
