Things to consider when buying a black wedding bands
- Durability: Mohs scale and easily it will scratch, Consider your work and lifestyle and durable it needs to be.
- Budget: This will vary hugely for each couple but consider your budget before as this will affect your metal and stone choices
- Availability: Some of the rarer designs and materials may be hard to source. Give plenty of time when shopping if you are after some unique or one of a kind.
- Matching partners: Not all couples want to match but most do, if so the engagement ring needs to be considered and what will work with what, and then finding something you both like.
- Resizing: A lot of black metals and materials used for black bands mean that the rings can not be resized after. This can be a huge problem over the years as we change shape and size and is one to think about
- Repairing: Like with resizing, repairing most black rings is impossible or expensive
- Emergency: Most black rings can’t be cut off in an emergency, they have to be smashed off.
Black wedding band metals and materials
Titanium is a really strong material and black titanium is coated in a diamond-like material making it strong and scratch resistant. It is hypoallergenic so perfect if you have allergies. They are low-cost and easily available.
They are not as durable as solid metal, meaning there is a possibility of the coating chipping showing the titanium underneath.
2. Black gold
Gold is strong solid metal. It is easy to have reshaped, repaired, and re-plated.
Black gold is plated so there is a high chance it will chip and wear over time. They are expensive, like with gold the higher carat the more expensive.
3. Black stainless steel
These are very low cost so a great choice if you have a lower budget. They are not plated, the steel is anodized to create the black color.
The steel is not very durable or scratch resistant. If you have an active job or enjoy sports or have an active lifestyle it may not be best.
These are super durable, hard-wearing, and really low-priced. They are made for active couples, cheap enough to replace if ever needed or lost.
As they are silicone, not metal they can look less expensive, which most do want with their wedding ring. They can not be resized or reshaped.
5. Black diamond
This one has the wow factor for sure, a full ring made from black diamond. The whole ring! With it all diamond it is the most durable and scratch-resistant ring you can get.
With a one-of-a-kind wow factor comes higher cost and availability. They can not be resized or changed in any way.
6. Black ceramic rings
It is a matt lightweight and hard-wearing material. It is also all one material no plating so no chipping. It does not corrode in salt water making it great for sea lovers! the price is reasonable, not the low end but a good price point for a long-lasting ring.
It can only have a simple design. Unlike metals and other materials, they can shatter if hit hard with a stronger or similar strength surface.
Zirconium is a durable, hard wearing metal that is also lightweight. It is reasonably priced, not as cheap as stainless steel but not on the higher end of costs. It is also hypoallergenic.
It is not plated but only the outer layer is treated to turn black, so not as easily chipped but with force this is possible.
Tungsten rings are hard wearing, heaves weight rings. They are actually coated in zirconium to create the black color. Making them strong and stylish rings.
As mentioned as they are coated they are prone to scraping, but as not plate
